Walking the Spiritual Path June 3

No expectations, no disappointments.

Expectation is the root of all heartache. William Shakespeare

Life is full of expectations about how things should work. From the moment we wake up in the morning to the last minute before sleep, we are bombarded by expectations. The expectations we have taken on are not ours. But we have embraced them to the core of our being. Our inner being doesn’t have expectations, and instead knows that each moment is unique. No matter how many times we have experienced something, we haven’t lived this moment before.

How often we do we go on autopilot? How often do we assume we know what is going on? What do we expect?

Expectations are sneaky. Expectations permeate everything in our lives. Try looking at something small in your life. Calling someone, getting a cup of coffee, running errands. Now list what you believe will happen. Then list your feelings about it. Even something really small like getting a cup of coffee is covered in expectations.

From these expectations our lives are created.

Affirmation: Today I am awake to my expectations.
