Serenity comes when expectations give way to acceptance. Anonymous

Expectations, for ourselves or for anyone else, is a pitfall on the spiritual path. We simply cannot hold onto what we think, what we know or what we think we know should happen in our world. Expectations are the result of the human conscious mind and ego. It is about the illusion of being in control, and not letting go of the circumstances of life. Expectations are not trusting that everything is going to work out.

Expectations are about a lack of faith. Expectations are saying we know better than the universe how something should unfold. But in our limited human perspective, how can we possibly know what the best outcome is or the path to accomplish it?

That is why, as we walk our spiritual path, we learn to let go and trust. We don’t know how something will work out. We cannot know all the different pieces of the puzzle and how they fit together. This is where faith comes in. We don’t have to. All we have to do is turn to our higher mind and soul, and let go of any preconceived ideas or expectations. Our job is to trust that everything works out for our highest good, and accept that we won’t know how it looks until it gets here.

Keeping our focus on our higher mind and soul, and keeping our thoughts, feelings and emotions out of it, means everything in our life unfolds exactly as it’s supposed to. The more we let go, trust, and keep a positive outlook, the better things work in our lives.

Affirmation: Today I let go of expectations, and trust my higher mind and soul.
